Sourcely v2.1: What's New and Why It Matters

A Year of Growth: From v2 to v2.1

It has been almost a year since we launched Sourcely v2 marking a new chapter in the Sourcely journey.

The release of Sourcely v2 was a major milestone for us. Sourcely v1's tech stack held us back in many ways. It was almost impossible to provide a smooth source finding experience. We also couldn't add new features like Citation-Worthy highlights and a Library that our customers wanted and that we thought would elevate Sourcely's experience.

The reception of the Sourcely v2 release has been overwhelmingly positive, with customers highlighting how much smoother and faster the site has become while overall delivering more accurate sources. However, as with every major release, there are bugs, details, and features you wish you had shipped but couldn't right away, as well as overall things you improve along the way.

Introducing Sourcely v2.1: The Complete Vision Realized

After 10 months of consistent improvements, I am proud to introduce a major update to Sourcely. With Sourcely v2.1, we made source finding faster and more accurate. We also added many new features (as also listed in Updates section), including:

  • Multi-language support for finding sources beyond English and automatically translating non-English text to find relevant English sources
  • The ability to regenerate and fetch more citations for better results
  • An export all button to save all your sources at once
  • The option to highlight text and find sources just for that specific part
  • Library subfolders for better organization
  • Many more enhancements based on user feedback

Overall, Sourcely v2.1 is a more complete version of Sourcely v2. It's what we wanted to deliver from the start, but we needed time to listen to our customers and make sure we got everything right.

Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter of Sourcely

Nevertheless, our efforts do not conclude here. We are concurrently working on delivering the next significant advancements for Sourcely. This process has involved developing design prototypes, iterating on new features, and ultimately beginning to integrate them into the beta version of the Sourcely application.

In the next year, I expect us to ship new major breakthroughs like Deep Search (not to be confused with Deep Research that generates reports) that screens thousands of papers, reads through them, and gives exact reasons why these sources are relevant for you; supporting hundreds of citation styles for export, chat with papers, in-text citation formatting, among many other things we are excited about.

My hope is that when I look back a year from now at what we have shipped, we will have reached another major milestone in Sourcely's history making it even easier for scientists, researchers, and the general public to find relevant sources for their text.
